Polo, Bicycle Polo...

I have never played this myself, but is sure looks like loads of fun. It has been around since 1891 as a poor man's alternative to the unaffordable equestrian variety. The modern Hardcourt Bike Polo , that has been gaining popularity the last years parallel to the fixie craze, seams a bit rough for my taste. This classic image however makes me want to grab my bicycle and go loco for two-wheeled polo.

Early Fixie In-Fatuation

Jackie Clark, 12/04/1912.

Repository: Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division, Washington, D.C.

Not only the fixed/single gear culture muses over early, pre-over-accessorized bicycles, every bicycle brand that has its nose in the right direction releases retro-models. New brands also go back to a for them non-existent history.

Besides all of this, eraly 20th century race bicycles are a thing of pure beauty.

India, not the most likely place for a bicycle holiday..

Walking your dog...

Young man riding bicycle while walking dog. CA, US (July 1971, Bill Eppridge)

I don't know if this is still called 'walking your dog' but it sure looks very relaxed for both of them.

There are actually three beauties (4 if you include the dog) in this photograph.

Scott Shuman's keen eye.

That Scott Shuman from The Sartorialist has a very good eye for beauty on the street may or may not be known to you. His attention for beauties on bicycles however made me go from liking to loving his blog.

This is my all-time favorite shot that he made.

More sustainable movie transportation!

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (George Roy Hill, 1969)

Since cycling is very environmentally friendly activity, sharing the experience seems even a better thing to do!

The beauties in this case: Paul Newman and Katherine Ross, who always reminds me of my beautiful mother.

Turkish Delights

My favorite movie scenes with bicycles must be from the Dutch movie: Turks Fruit (a.k.a. Turkish Delight, 1973, Paul Verhoeven).

Dutch super-handsome actor Rutger Hauer rides around his girlfriend (very cute Monique van de Ven) around with a passion through Amsterdam, no matter what kind of bicycle, call me crazy but that is dreamy.

Rutger now mostly plays very scary blond guys in American semi-B-movies, from a non defined Scandinavian country with a heavy accent.

Beauties on Bicycles, stepping up and peddling away!

Because everybody looks better riding a bicycle.

It began with my favorite peddler of all time:
